How I Designed a Bold Brand Made with Love for Lamington Cafe
With bold colours, unforgettable bakes, and a vibe that’s both cosy and confident, it deserved an online presence to match. Lamington Cafe asked me to help build a Shopify website and brand that brought website traffic and captured the charm of their café experience online.

The Challenge
Susie runs Lamington Cafe with the same energy and flair she pours into her globally inspired dishes and original bakes. But while she’s an expert in baking show-stopping homemade cake, she was the first to admit she wasn’t sure how to take her business online.
After my work with their sister company, Lamington Therapies, Susie hired me to:
Reach customers in Biggar and beyond by promoting their delivery service
Design a website and brand that reflected the bold, colourful spirit of the cafe
Create a Shopify store that’s simple to manage and seamless for customers

My Approach
This project was all about bringing Susie’s creativity and flavour to life – in the digital world. I built a vibrant, personality-packed brand online that captured the warmth and homely delight of visiting the cafe itself (if only Shopify had a “smell fresh baked goods” feature!).
Brand identity: I built a bold digital brand inspired by the cafe’s bold colours and feminine homemade touch, and Susie’s lively personality. I included real photography of the food, drinks, and cafe interior to create a seamless brand experience.

Website design & Shopify set up: I designed a website made for clarity and ease, and individual product pages for her bakes and treats that were available to order.
I used Shopify to build a fast, secure, and user-friendly ecommerce store and organised the store into clear categories with detailed product descriptions, usage notes and full ingredient lists.
Copywriting & SEO: I wrote all web copy in Susie’s voice and told Susie’s story in a way that resonates with customers who love small, independent businesses. I made sure to integrate Google Reviews directly into the homepage for an instant trust-building experience.
I carried out keyword research to target terms and wove those keywords into the site content. Finally, I updated their Google Business details with new imagery, accurate hours, and keyword-rich descriptions for maximum local visibility.
The Results
From publish, Susie found a stream of orders coming her way and also reported that the cafe is busier than ever before. On the first week she received 250 store sessions which continues to grow as her website receives more authority.
While my freelance services were required just for creating a Shopify store and website, I provided her with an off-boarding document with extra tips of how they can make their business grow. This included social media tips, encouraging them to write a blog to increase their website’s authority, Google Shopping, and making use of market stalls to spread the word of her fabulous creations.
