How I Built a Beautiful, Ethical Brand Online for Lamington Therapies

Lamington Therapies, a small independent skincare company in Biggar, Scotland, wanted to expand their reach beyond their local community. My role was to transform their handmade products into a memorable online presence and to build a digital brand that felt as personal and trustworthy as their in-store experience.

Background Info

Client name: Lamington Therapies

Client description: A small, independent skincare company based in Biggar, Scotland, where every product is handmade using natural ingredients.

Client industry: Natural Skincare and Oils

Project dates: January 2024 - March 2024

The Challenge

While Susie and Alex’s skincare products were already well known in their hometown, they were eager to introduce them to a wider audience.

But they were the first to admit: they weren’t sure where to start when it came to websites, ecommerce, or online branding.

What they did know is:

  • They wanted to sell more products online

  • They valued ethical, sustainable business practices

  • They needed a website that reflected their natural and independent brand

  • They wanted to work with someone who shared their values

  • And they wanted straightforward marketing advice that they could upkeep with their busy schedules

That’s where I came in.

My Approach

A big part of this project was about brand building, and putting it together on a website to create a cohesive online presence that told their story, looked beautiful, worked seamlessly behind the scenes, and was easy to maintain. Here’s what I delivered:

  • Brand Identity: I developed a brand style guide including colours, fonts, and visual direction. I used soft blues and muted tones to evoke calm and clarity, while highlighting the natural vibrancy of their products through photography and layout. I focused on storytelling to reflect their status as a small, ethical producer, not a faceless cosmetics brand.

  • Photography: I shot all images using an iPhone 14 Pro with natural lighting and minimal editing. I styled product images with props like fruit to echo the natural ingredients and bring the products to life by creating a “visual scent”. I ensured the visuals felt both professional but personal.

  • Website design & Shopify setup: I created a custom website for them using Shopify and designed a clean, simple navigation structure to make shopping easy and enjoyable for their customers. I set up inventory management, payment processing, and both delivery and local pickup options.

  • Copywriting & SEO: I embedded their brand personality into every word: honest, knowledgeable, and local. I also made sure to write clear, inviting product descriptions with full ingredients lists and usage instructions. Furthermore, I conducted keyword research using niche terms with achievable ranking potential and wove the keywords throughout the site to improve visibility and lay the foundation for long-term growth.

The Results

From publish, Susie and Alex found a stream of orders coming their way and they received great feedback on the website and shopping experience. On the first week they received 153 store sessions which continues to grow as their website receives more authority.

While my freelance services were required just for creating a Shopify store and website, I provided them with an off-boarding document with extra tips of how they can make their business grow. This included social media tips, encouraging them to write a blog to increase their website’s authority, Google Shopping, and making use of market stalls to spread the word of their fabulous products.

Working with Eloise was effortless and she was very patient with us as it was our first time setting up anything like this. She was great at meeting with us and getting to know what we wanted bang-on. We are very happy with the final websites.
